Colour is light. Without it there is no colour.
Sunlight of course is the main source that that we are all familiar with.

When it comes to decorating with colour and choosing the right shade of neutral for your Hallway, the right shade of yellow to make your dark rooms sunny, or the right colours to accent your living room furniture—it can be a bit overwhelming.
Colour is the single most important ingredient in preparing your homes interiors, along with light proportion, balance, and harmony. Colour is an inexpensive method of expressing yourself and adding value to your property and has a huge impact on our wellbeing, so therefore thought needs to be given to colour and incorporating it with your soft furnishing finishes spending some time and a small financial outlay with a professional is both time and money well spent.

Interestingly most people worry about choosing the large colour items in their homes, but in fact that is the easy part; its putting the right neutrals together for harmony and impact along with choosing the correct accessories is where most people go wrong.
Most people lack the knowledge and confidence to carry this out, they turn to white as they believe this to be foolproof.
How often have I heard Clients comment that they are “playing it safe” and “keeping it neutral” in fact white/neutrals are the hardest colours to work with, there is a minefield of different hues, yellow, grey, beige, blue, black, pink which in turn can appear, warm, cool, dirty etc.
You can almost put any colour together if you get the hue right! It’s as simple as that.

Other things to take into account is that light is different in every room in your home, what looks white in one room can look grey in another, also flooring colour and direction of sunlight can throw a spanner in the works and can really make colour and fabric selection even harder.
Whether you are constructing your dream home from the ground up, redesigning your current home or just refreshing the decor in a room, our Decorators at David Rice Interiors can guide you and create a space and colour palette that you will love.
